According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Jacob Elordi is in talks to join Scarlett Johansson in the cast of Scapegoat, a new film from Ari Aster produced by A24.
The director, who has a long-standing partnership with the studio (which was behind his previous four films), is also writing the screenplay and producing alongside Lars Knudsen through Square Peg.
Plot details remain under wraps, and reports about the genre are conflicting: some say the film follows a doctor who operates on an internet celebrity; others are betting on a romantic science fiction story; and there are still those who believe it will be a more traditional drama by Aster's standards.
The project had already been seen as the director's next move since the beginning of the year, and Johansson was the first choice for the lead role.
Aster had Elordi in mind for the film's other major character. The actor, who recently received his first Oscar nomination for Frankenstein, had been weighing offers after an intense stretch of work that included filming Wuthering Heights (alongside Margot Robbie) and returning for the final season of Euphoria.
If the deal goes through, filming will begin later this year.
