Hannah Einbinder and Susan Sarandon Arrested at Pro-Palestinian NY Protest

Actresses Hannah Einbinder and Susan Sarandon are among those detained on Wednesday (24) in New York during protests against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was scheduled to speak at the UN General Assembly. Images of the two being led away in handcuffs circulated on social media before the start of the speech. It is not confirmed whether they were arrested or just detained.

Both actresses are outspoken critics of Israeli politics and supporters of the Palestinian cause. Einbinder spoke in Cannes about the risks of taking a stand. "The cost of not speaking out is higher. There is a higher price to pay for not speaking out, and you need to have your priorities clear. I have no illusions that my short career can compare to a single human life. It's an obligation, and I will always do it."

Sarandon said at the Venice Film Festival in September that her career has been impacted by speaking out. "Just recently I lost films because there are agencies telling people not to hire me. But that's the power structure. Among the people, certainly internationally, I feel welcome."

According to The New York Times , Netanyahu opened his speech by asking the delegates who were leaving the room: "Where were you when the Iranian tyrants massacred and maimed tens of thousands of unarmed Iranian civilians?" Later, he criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and streamer Hasan Pike.
