Captain Carter Actress Slams Character’s Death in 'Doctor Strange' Sequel

Actress Hayley Atwell has once again commented on the death of Captain Carter in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), in which she ended up being cut in half by her own shield during a confrontation with the Scarlet Witch. The character had only a brief appearance in the film and was quickly killed off by Wanda — who used telekinesis to hurl the heroine’s own shield back at her.

During an interview at the For the Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi convention in London, Atwell said she still feels frustrated by the way the character was handled. “To be brutally honest, I was very disappointed with how they positioned her and with what happened to her in that scene. It’s such a small role, and she ends up dying after being hit by a frisbee”, she said.

The actress also revealed that she tried to suggest changes to the scene during filming, but her ideas were not accepted by the team. For Atwell, the decision was “a complete disservice to the character.”

This is not the first time the actress has criticized Captain Carter’s role in the feature film. In 2023, she had already said she did not like that the heroine said “I could do this all day” right before being killed, in a reference to Steve Rogers’ famous line.

Atwell is expected to return as a version of Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doctor Doom, although it is still unclear which variant of the character will be featured. The actress also said she would like to see the character get more room in the future of the MCU.
