According to exclusive information from Variety, a sequel to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is in development at Paramount, with original star Kate Hudson already confirmed as a producer. The project is still in the early stages, with the studio and filmmakers hoping to bring back Matthew McConaughey to reprise his role alongside Hudson.

The sequel is still looking for a writer, and casting will depend on the outcome of the creative work. Stacey Sher, producer of Pulp Fiction, Gattaca, Erin Brockovich, Vanilla Sky, and Django Unchained, is also involved in the production alongside Hudson through her company Shiny Penny.

The decision to continue the 2003 romantic comedy reflects the wave of early-2000s nostalgia currently sweeping Hollywood. In 2026, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Scary Movie have already been box office hits, and releases such as Practical Magic 2, Meet the Parents, Shrek 5, and The Chronicles of Narnia film from Greta Gerwig are on the way.

The original film, directed by Donald Petrie, grossed $180 million worldwide on a $50 million budget. The story followed Andie Anderson (Hudson), a magazine columnist who, in order to write an article about modern relationships, seduces advertising executive Benjamin Barry (McConaughey) and turns into the "girlfriend from hell." What begins as a bet on both sides turns into true love.

Kate Hudson, recently nominated for an Oscar for Song Sung Blue (2025), also stars in the Netflix series Running Point. Matthew McConaughey, who stepped away from romantic comedies years ago, only recently returned to screens with The Rivals of Amziah King.
