Hollywood analysts have already begun making their predictions for this weekend's box office, which features two major premieres. On one hand, Verity, a thriller starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett. On the other, Digger, a unique and eccentric film by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, starring Tom Cruis . As expected, the general public should go for Verity, while Digger could be a major flop for Cruise's career.
In the United States, Verity is expected to gross over $30 million in 3,510 theaters. Internationally, it is projected to take in another $20 million to $25 million, bringing the film's worldwide opening to between $50 million and $55 million.
Digger has a projected domestic estimate of only $12 million to $15 million, with some projections indicating that the film may not even surpass $10 million. Internationally, the forecast is between $15 million and $20 million, this would put the global opening at around $35 million.
The result, as Deadline points out, is especially worrying because the film, which has been touted as a possible contender for the 2027 Oscars, has an estimated budget of at least $125 million and could become a major commercial flop for Tom Cruise.
