The choice of the next James Bond is getting closer to a decision. According to exclusive information from Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios is preparing the final tests to determine who will replace Daniel Craig as Agent 007. The auditions are expected to take place over the next week, with at least four actors invited for the final stage. Among the names mentioned are Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), Callum Turner (Masters of the Air), and Josh O'Connor (Wake Up Dead Man) – in addition to a mystery actor.
With these names now confirmed for the final round, Jack O'Connell and Jacob Elordi, who had been mentioned as potential candidates according to THR, were left out.
The tests were initially scheduled for the beginning of October, but were postponed due to scheduling conflicts among the candidates. The idea is to bring the finalists together around the same time to facilitate comparison between their performances. Despite the proximity of the final stage, there is still no set date for the announcement of the new Bond.
Sources speaking to Deadline believe, however, that the decision should be announced by the end of the year. Amazon MGM Studios has not commented on the matter.
Everything you need to know about the future of 007
With over 20 films released since the 1960s, 007 is one of the longest-running franchises in cinema history. From the very beginning, the Broccoli family has stewarded the character and his films—first with Cubby Broccoli, founder of Eon, and later with his children, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. In 2025, however, the Broccolis decided to sell creative control of the character to Amazon MGM Studios for a reported $1 billion. Within Amazon, Amy Pascal—producer for the Spider-Man films—and David Heyman—who produced the Harry Potter adaptations—were selected to produce and manage the franchise.
It is not yet known when the new James Bond film will be released, let alone who will take on the role of Agent 007. However, Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Dune) will direct, and Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) is handling the screenplay.
