Ahn Pan-seok, 'Something in the Rain' Director, Dies at 64

Director Ahn Pan-seok, known for helming K-dramas such as Something in the Rain (2018) and One Spring Night (2019), has died at 64.

The news was confirmed by South Korean broadcaster ENA [via Soompi], which produces the still-unreleased K-drama Love Doctor. Ahn was working on the series’ set in July when he collapsed and was hospitalized.

According to the official statement, Ahn Pan-seok suffered a sudden medical emergency caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.

Active in the industry since the late 1980s, when he joined broadcaster MBC’s production team, he began directing in the following decade with projects such as Yesterday (1997) and Shy Lovers  (1998).

Success came with Behind the White Tower (2006), a medical drama starring Lee Sun-kyun. It was followed by titles such as How Long I've Kissed (2012), Secret Affair (2014, with Yoo Ah-in), Heard It Through the Grapevine (2015), Something in the Rain and One Spring Night (2018 and 2019, both with Jung Hae-in), The Midnight Romance in Hagwon (2024, with Wi Ha-joon) and The Art of Negotiation (2025).

Love Doctor, starring Choo Young-woo and Kim So-hyun, will mark his final work and is scheduled to premiere in October.
