New Character “Energizes” Season 2 of 'Flex X Cop', Says Ahn Bo-hyun

Fans of Flex X Cop were introduced to a new core dynamic in the first episode of the second season of the K-drama, released today (7) by Disney+. That’s because the main character, heir-turned-detective Jin I-su (Ahn Bo-hyun), has a new boss: the tough Ju Hye-ra, played by Jung Eun-chae (Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born).

Introduced as Jin I-su’s instructor during his time at the police academy, she also represents a new phase for the protagonist — who, according to Ahn Bo-hyun, is “more mature” and “getting into less trouble” this season. But how long will this “new Jin” last?

Below, Omelete speaks with the two lead actors about this new phase of Flex X Cop, behind the scenes of the action sequences, and much more!

OMELETE: Hello! I’m Caio from Omelete in Brazil. Thank you for speaking with us!

AHN: Hello!

JUNG: Thank you!

OMELETE: I want to start with a question for Ahn Bo-hyun: fans were obviously very happy when Season 2 of Flex X Cop was announced, but how surprising was it for you to be called back? Were you expecting the story to continue, and what were you excited to explore with this character?

AHN: I found out that Season 2 had been confirmed while the first season was still airing, and I felt very grateful. In fact, my only wish was for the entire team and cast from Season 1 to be able to continue working on Season 2, and fortunately nearly 90% of us stayed on, so I returned to set feeling very happy. With the arrival of a new character, team leader Ju Hye-ra, I feel like the story has taken on a much more vibrant energy. In Season 1, my character Jin I-su was a bit reckless and a troublemaker, but now he has gone through the police academy and met leader Ju, so he has become much more mature.

OMELETE: That leads perfectly into my next question, for Jung Eun-chae. I read a description of this season that refers to your character as the “hellish instructor” from Jin I-su’s academy days. What would you say is her main motivation, and why is she so hard on him?

JUNG: My character met Jin I-su at the beginning of his time at the police academy. Back then, he was the kind of person who really stood out in a group, demanded a lot of attention, and was always stepping out of line. In a police academy, risky and unpredictable behavior like that is exactly what you want to eliminate, and Jin I-su was the perfect example of it. That’s why my character initially had some prejudice against him.

OMELETE: Finally, a question for both of you: in the first season of Flex X Cop, everyone loved the action sequences, which also mixed in a lot of comedy. As actors, did you enjoy taking part in the fight scenes? Could you share any behind-the-scenes stories?

AHN: The action scenes were filmed without any injuries or accidents, which is the most important thing. And in my opinion, the final result was very satisfying to watch! I hope you enjoy it.

JUNG: Yes, and there are many different kinds of action scenes in this series. Right in the first episode, we have a long, choreographed action sequence involving the three team members. But it’s also a little comedic, which was interesting! On top of that, we have car chases and wire-action scenes throughout the season. So there’s a great variety of scenes, on a huge scale, for viewers to enjoy.
