Asha Sharma 's management of Xbox is facing renewed criticism from a Microsoft veteran. The sudden departure of Helen Chiang from her position as Chief Operating Officer (COO), just three months after taking the role, has raised questions about the direction of the gaming division. This episode occurs amidst a restructuring marked by layoffs, studio closures, and project cancellations.

After leaving the company, Chiang published a letter on LinkedIn titled "Clarity is Kindness," in which she disputed speculation about the reasons for her departure. The executive denied being fired for violating internal policies and stated that she does not intend to detail what happened. "Silence should not be interpreted as agreement," she wrote. She also said that the information released about her dismissal created an image of her with which she does not identify.

In the publication, Chiang denied leaking confidential information to the press or leaving Microsoft to work for another company. She also stated that she "was not involved in any cases of discrimination, intimidation, harassment, insider trading, embezzlement, or other fraudulent activities."

The former COO further clarified that she was not seeking a position of greater responsibility and that she did not ask to assume the role. According to her, the promotion occurred in July. Chiang also stated that she has concerns about how the company's internal standards were applied in her case. "These standards only have meaning when they are applied consistently," she declared, adding that she believes her concerns deserve to be taken seriously.

The protest once again received public support from Shannon Loftis, a veteran who worked at Microsoft for 29 years. In a comment on the post, she criticized the Xbox leadership and questioned the release of information she described as false. According to Loftis, the episode demonstrates a loss of moral character in the division's management. She also advocated for the company to investigate who was responsible for the leak.

"It's a real circus in there and I feel terrible for anyone who still has to deal with it," Loftis wrote in conclusion to her comment.

To date, no details have been presented regarding the circumstances that led to Chiang's departure. However, the statements from the two executives have raised further questions about the internal environment at Xbox during Asha Sharma's tenure.
