After Acquiring EA, Saudi Investment Fund Considers Buying Unity
Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Silver Lake discussed a possible purchase of the company, valued at approximately US$25 billion.
Unity Software , the company behind one of the leading tools for creating 3D games and applications, is in talks for a possible acquisition by a group of investors that includes the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund (PIF) and the investment firm Silver Lake Partners.
The information was released by Reuters on Thursday (5), based on sources familiar with the discussions. The consortium reportedly discussed a valuation of approximately $25 billion for the company, before the release of its most recent financial report, which raised its market value to around $21.5 billion.
This move represents another significant investment by those involved in the gaming sector. In August, PIF and Silver Lake were part of the consortium that acquired Electronic Arts (EA), responsible for franchises such as EA Sports FC , in a US$55 billion deal.
The acquisition was completed that month and took the publisher private. In Unity's case, Silver Lake already owns approximately 8% of the company's shares. After receiving the approach from investors, the company hired an investment bank to evaluate its options.
No agreement has yet been reached, and the terms of the potential negotiation could change. Unity, Silver Lake, and PIF have not officially commented on the discussions
