In 2026, The Legend of Zelda celebrates its 40th anniversary with the release of the Ocarina of Time remake. The renowned franchise, which began in 1986, boasts over 20 main games, in addition to numerous spin-off titles. Therefore, each player will have a different answer to the question "What's your favorite Zelda?".

In an exclusive interview with Omelete, directly from New York, we asked the producers of this new game, Eiji Aonuma (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, The Wind Waker) and Hidemaro Fujibayashi (Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom), which is their favorite game in the entire franchise.

Aonuma implied, amidst laughter, that he was quite a fan of the original Ocarina of Time. This was the first game in the series he worked on, acting as scenario director and dungeon designer. Soon after, he was appointed director for Majora's Mask and today serves as supervisor for the franchise's games.

Hidemaro Fujibayashi was more direct in his answer: The Legend of Zelda, from 1986, is his favorite. The producer had already stated during the interview that he played the game, initially released for the Family Computer Disk System, during his childhood.

The two have worked together on the franchise since Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, when Fujibayashi was still an employee at Capcom. This is the first time they have both shared the role of producers.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is now available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. Read our review here.
