It wasn't just Omelete that loved the game (and you can check out our review here): The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (2026), the remake of the Nintendo 64 classic released in 1998, debuted with one of the best scores of all time on Metacritic, a video game review aggregator.
At the time of writing, the Ocarina of Time remake has a score of 96 based on 80 reviews – universal acclaim. It's the highest-rated game of 2026 so far (and let's be honest, only Grand Theft Auto VI has a chance of dethroning it). But the achievement goes even further:
This places the game among the highest-rated of all time; only 34 games (even fewer if we exclude compilations) have a score of 96 or higher on Metacritic, a list that curiously includes four more Zelda games – Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Wind Waker and, the only game with a score of 99, the original Ocarina of Time .
The remake of Ocarina of Time arrives to celebrate 40 years of the legendary Nintendo franchise. Featuring a free camera and jump button, as well as modernized graphics, the game will be available on Switch 2 starting this Thursday, November 5th.
