Riot Games revealed this Thursday (20) that 2XKO, a fighting game based on the League of Legends universe, will no longer receive updates or new content from the developer.
This is not the first League of Legends spin-off game that Riot Games has eventually discontinued. Legends of Runeterra, a card game based on the LoL universe, also had its development ended by the company.
With a heavy heart, the @Play2XKO team shares an update about the future.

- Active development will end in December.
- The final content patch goes live in October.
- Servers stay online.
- In-game purchases made before August 20 will be refunded.https://t.co/3UQF7kh5S4 pic.twitter.com/FKquzTd6xc
According to Riot Games, the game’s low player adoption made it unsustainable within the company. It’s worth noting that although Riot Games has a broad audience thanks to League of Legends, the MOBA player base will not necessarily engage with a fighting game.
The developer also informed players that all purchases will be refunded and that the servers will remain available, with the game’s final patch arriving in October.
If fans want to acquire all of 2XKO’s cosmetic content, Riot will make a final bundle so that all players can have the content on their accounts.
It was also revealed that ranked matches will become unavailable, with only the casual queue remaining active to ensure smoother match management. However, skill-based matchmaking will remain active even in the casual queue to keep matches balanced.
With that, it is very likely that Riot Games will continue focusing its efforts on League of Legends and Valorant, which has stood the test of time and continues to maintain an active competitive scene and player base.
