With the announcement that development of 2XKO is coming to an end, Riot Games released a statement revealing that the game will remain live, though with some changes from its original version.
Check out everything you need to know below about the shutdown of the fighting game set in the League of Legends universe.
Will the game still be playable?
Yes. According to Riot Games, the game will remain available for all users to play. However, starting this Thursday (20), KO Points, the title’s premium currency, will be disabled. In addition, Riot also revealed that the ranked queue will be shut down so maintenance efforts can be focused solely on the casual queue.

However, Riot Games explained that matchmaking will continue to work, and more skilled 2XKO players will still be matched against opponents of a similar level.
What about refunds?
For PC players, all purchases of KO Points and 2XKO Starter Editions made through August 20 will be refunded to the payment method used for the purchase. Most refunds should be processed over the next two weeks, according to Riot Games. The developer expects to complete PC refunds by November 2026.
For PlayStation and XBOX players, all purchases of KO Points and 2XKO Starter Editions made through August 20 will be refunded by the platform and payment provider used for the purchase. PlayStation or Xbox support can be contacted over the coming weeks to confirm payment details.
Will the game still receive updates?

Planned updates for the game, such as Lux arriving in update 1.3.1, are still part of Riot Games’ plans. The company also revealed that an Ultimate Pack for the game will be released with all skins, skin chromas, taunts, and finishers for every champion released up to the new character.
It was also revealed that items will be made available in place of Credits, the currency earned through gameplay. Avatar items, chromas, stages, and player profile items will be unlockable with Credits.
Battle Passes, KO Points, Champion Emblems, seasons, and events will be removed, and all champions will be unlocked for all players.

After the September 8 update that will bring Lux, update 1.3.3 will arrive in October and will be the last one to add a champion to the game, bringing Samira to 2XKO.
In December, Riot Games is expected to release update 1.3.5 to address bug fixes, and it will not include major content. Even so, the game’s servers will remain available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
What about the competitive scene?

According to the company, the competitive scene in 2026 will continue unchanged, with ongoing support for players and tournament organizers, including prize pools for all Major and Challenger events. The final event of the Competitive Series will take place in November, and after 2026, organizers may continue running 2XKO events as long as they follow the Community Competition Guidelines.
Did Riot Games give a reason for ending the game?
In the official statement, Riot Games revealed that the game ultimately failed to meet the company’s expectations to sustain 2XKO in the long term. The company stressed that although the title has an active community and a competitive scene, the creator of League of Legends would not be able to maintain updates and content production without reaching its audience expectations.

In the end, the company said it would have continued developing the game if it had seen a viable future for the project, which it did not. According to Riot Games’ estimates, only “a fraction” of the audience and monetization needed to keep the title sustainable ever materialized.
