The next game in the Grand Theft Auto franchise shouldn't take another eight years to arrive, according to Rockstar Games. In an interview with Bloomberg, studio representatives stated that the work done on GTA VI will serve as a foundation to accelerate the production of future titles, including a possible GTA VII.
According to Phil Hooker of Rockstar, "the graphics engine, the tools, and the team we built during GTA 6 will allow us to do things faster. I'm confident we can build on that and move more horizontally than vertically to create even more engaging content."
Art director Aaron Garbut added that, although the project required fundamental changes, this structure is already in place and can be used in future releases.
Everything you need to know about GTA VI
Once again developed by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI is the first GTA in thirteen years, following the astronomical success of GTA V, released in 2013. The franchise is one of the most successful in video game history.
The story of GTA VI takes place in an open world based on Florida, in the United States. Its setting is Vice City, a fictional version of Miami that debuted in the first GTA and later got its own game with 2002’s GTA Vice City.
GTA VI arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. A PC version has not yet been announced.
