Wizards of the Coast has revealed the first concrete details of the collaboration between Star Wars and Dungeons & Dragons during New York Comic Con. The announcement, made after the partnership was confirmed in July, features the cover and concept art for the expansion, which will be released in 2027.
The collaboration consists of two main elements. The first is an adventure called Star Wars Tyro Squadron: Adventures, described as a campaign where players join a secret Rebel crew. The story takes place during the Original Trilogy, with Luke and Leia facing their own battles across the galaxy as the group undertakes daring missions and helps shape the Rebellion's fate. The premise seems to focus on smugglers and adventurers confronting the Empire, rather than Jedi.
The second element is the D&D | Star Wars Core Rules book, which will provide the rules for adapting the Star Wars universe to the D&D system. Wizards of the Coast has not detailed what mechanical changes will be made to make blasters and lightsabers work in the game, but has promised to reveal more information soon.
This is the second major D&D collaboration under the Universes Beyond label after World of Warcraft, which is set to arrive November 17 and promises familiar zones, dungeons, and legendary enemies from the franchise's 20-year history.
Wizards of the Coast introduced Universes Beyond in 2021 as a crossover brand for Magic: The Gathering, which generated considerable controversy. Many players criticize the initiative for fueling an excessive and expensive volume of releases. The brand has already featured collaborations with Warhammer 40,000, Marvel, Final Fantasy, The Lord of the Rings, and even SpongeBob SquarePants.
