'Cyberpunk 2077' Live-Action Officially In the Works by Paramount
Lorenzo di Boaventura, who produced 'Transformers', is on board leading the adaptation.
A live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project has officially entered early development. Reports from Deadline confirm that Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is spearheading the adaptation alongside Paramount Pictures.
Set in the high-tech, dystopian sprawl of Night City, California, the story centers on V, a mercenary accidentally infected with a biochip holding the digital mind of Johnny Silverhand, an infamous rock star turned terrorist. With Silverhand's mind threatening to permanently erase V's, the unlikely pair must unite to survive while going head-to-head with Arasaka—the ruthless megacorporation controlling the metropolis.
Commercial performance for the franchise remains massive: total sales for Cyberpunk 2077 have climbed past 40 million units worldwide across its original launch and Ultimate Edition, while the Phantom Liberty expansion has topped 15 million copies. This trajectory secures its position among the top-selling video games of all time, outstripping the growth pace set by developer CD Projekt RED’s previous flagship title, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Originally launched in 2020 as one of the most ambitious gaming projects of its era, Cyberpunk 2077 initially suffered a rocky release marred by software bugs and technical limitations. Extensive updates, structural fixes, and the critically acclaimed release of Phantom Liberty have since turned the title around, cementing its place as a major commercial and critical success.
