Amazon Drops Responsibility for 'Throne and Liberty' and 'Lost Ark' in the West

Amazon Game Studios revealed this Wednesday (12) that it will no longer handle western operations for Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty, two MMORPGs that the company helped bring to this side of the globe. 

For Throne and Liberty, the transition back to NC, formerly NCSoft, will take place at the end of 2026, while for Lost Ark, the handover process to Smilegate will begin in 2027.

It was also stated that in the case of Throne and Liberty, cross-progression between Steam and consoles is not expected to continue after the transition to NC. However, progress in both games should remain intact despite the change. 

With this news, it seems very likely that Amazon Game Studios will completely leave the MMORPG space, having had a string of games with little market impact. Previously, in 2021, the studio released New World, which, despite performing well at first, ended up losing a significant portion of its player base and will have its servers shut down in early 2027.

At another point, after several layoffs at the studio, the Lord of the Rings MMORPG that was being developed there was also reportedly canceled.
