Yuri Nakamura, Netflix's 'Romantics Anonymous' Star, Dies at 44
The actress from Romantics Anonymous faced two cancer diagnoses and spent her last months with her family.

Alpha Agency confirmed on Monday (14) the death of Yuri Nakamura, aged 44. The actress, known for works such as the Netflix series Romantics Anonymous passed away on September 1st due to rectal cancer.
This was not the first time Nakamura had faced the disease. Thirteen years earlier, she had already battled cancer and chosen to hide the diagnosis from his colleagues to avoid causing them concern.
After going into remission, she resumed his career and maintained medical follow-up. In January 2025, the new diagnosis came. The surgery went well, but subsequent tests detected metastases. With no chance of another remission, the focus of treatment shifted to controlling the disease and improving quality of life.
In August 2026, an intestinal obstruction led to the diagnosis that she had little time left. The actress spent her final days surrounded by family and close friends.
"Yuri faced this period with serenity, always maintaining a beautiful and gentle smile. Surrounded by family and close friends, she managed to spend his last moments in a peaceful and meaningful way," says the agency's statement. The text also recalls that, although much of her 30s and 40s were marked by treatment, this period also included encounters, happiness, and achievements.
Born in Neyagawa, Osaka, Nakamura began her musical career. In 1996, she passed an audition for the program. Asayan later joined the duo YuriMari with Mari Izawa. The group lasted from 1998 to 1999. From then on, she transitioned to acting.
Her most prominent role came in Pacchigi! Love & Peace (2007), a sequel directed by Kazuyuki Izutsu . As Kyonja, an aspiring actress dealing with the challenges of being a Zainichi Korean in Japan, she received the Best Actress award at the Zenkoku Eiren and the Revelation award at the Osaka Film Festival.
The filmography also includes After the Storm (2016), by Hirokazu Kore-eda, Fukushima 50 (2020), Arc (2021), Beyond Goodbye (2024) and Romantics Anonymous (2025), one of her last screen appearances.
