During their participation in the 2026 Emmy Awards this Monday (14), Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz joked about the cancellation of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.
"You know, Sarah, I always imagined that Buffy and Angel would end up together," Boreanaz said, referencing the couple that marked the series, even though Buffy, after Angel left the show, became involved with Spike, played by James Marsters .

"Well, it seems we'll never know!", joked the actress, leaving open the possibility that David would appear in the reboot, which was canceled by Hulu after supposedly having problems with the first script and that the executive was not a fan of the production and had boasted about it to Gellar and Chloé Zhao during the production of the pilot
So far, despite the fans' excitement about the project, the Buffy reboot doesn't seem to be revived, and Gellar's participation in a future project of the franchise, which could have happened, seems unlikely to materialize.
