The Star Trek panel at SDCC revealed the first image of Keats, a brand-new character from season 2 of Starfleet Academy. Check out actor Ruaridh Aldington below, described as a young alien the cadets encounter on a mission who has a mysterious past. When they make the risky decision to bring him back to Starfleet Academy, they realize he is a fugitive and that his life is in danger. Check it out below!

In the story, Paul Giamatti plays the villain Nus Braka, and the actor describes his character as "disruptive" and "with a dark past connected to one of the cadets". He also revealed that Nus Braka is a half-Klingon, half-Tellarite hybrid.

The series follows a class of cadets training under the guidance of Starfleet’s best. Starring Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, Zoë Steiner and, notably, Holly Hunter as the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy. Tig Notaro, Robert Picardo, Oded Fehr, Mary Wiseman, Gina Yashere, and Paul Giamatti are also part of the cast.

Created by Gaia Violo and led by Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, the series premiered on Paramount+ on January 15, 2026.

The second season will be the last, as the series was canceled shortly after the first one premiered.
