More 'Bridgerton'? Shonda Rhimes Renews Her Exclusive Deal with Netflix

Netflix has renewed its overall deal with Shonda Rhimes, creator of Bridgerton, for another five years. Under the new agreement, production company Shondaland and its partner Betsy Beers will continue developing and producing series, films, and games exclusively for the platform, as well as licensed products and live events tied to the projects. 

The renewal comes five years after the previous deal and reinforces the partnership between Rhimes and Netflix, driven mainly by the success of Bridgerton. According to the platform, the franchise has racked up 610 million views since the first half of 2023, while the first and third seasons rank among the service’s most-watched series of all time.

Season 5 of Bridgerton is already in production in London and will focus on Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). In addition, a sixth season has also been confirmed.

In addition to the main series, Rhimes has also produced Netflix titles such as Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Inventing Anna, and The Residence.

Meanwhile, there are rumors of other Bridgerton-related projects in development, including a possible prequel focused on Violet Bridgerton, the Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell in the main series. The character was widowed after the death of Edmund Bridgerton and is the mother of the family’s eight siblings.
