Everything you need to know about Black Doves
Set in London during Christmas, Black Doves is a Netflix spy series created, written, and produced by Joe Barton, writer of Giri/Haji and The Lazarus Project. The production blends action, suspense, humor, and drama in a story about friendship, loyalty, and sacrifice.
The plot follows Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a devoted wife and mother who also leads a secret life as a professional spy. For ten years, she has been passing confidential information from her husband, politician Wallace Webb (Andrew Buchan), to the clandestine organization Black Doves. Her routine changes when Jason (Andrew Koji), her secret lover, is murdered.
To protect Helen, her boss, the enigmatic Reed (Sarah Lancashire), calls in Sam Young (Ben Whishaw), an old friend of the protagonist and a skilled assassin who had stepped away from the underworld. Together, the two investigate Jason's death and end up uncovering a conspiracy that links London's organized crime to a major geopolitical crisis.
In addition to Knightley, Whishaw, and Lancashire, the cast includes Andrew Buchan, Kathryn Hunter, Ella Lily Hyland, Gabrielle Creevy, Omari Douglas, Andrew Koji, Luther Ford, Adeel Akhtar, and Paapa Essiedu. The first season has six episodes.
