Almost accidentally, Peter Safran, one of the CEOs of DC Studios, revealed the main cast of the Mister Miracle animated series. Josh Hutcherson will voice the hero Scott Free, and Mackenzie Davis will play his partner, Barda.
"With Mister Miracle, I think Tom King really learned a lot in his run co-creating and executive producing Green Lanterns and adapted his Mister Miracle book entirely on his own, wrote all eight episodes, and I think it's just dynamite. Josh Hutcherson as Scott Free and Mackenzie Davis as Big Barda," Safran told IGN.
"And I just think it's a comic book that I've always loved, and I remember Tom telling us that from the beginning, at every convention he goes to, at least a few people come up to him and say that this book saved my life, and I love the fact that we got to tell that story in eight episodes. And it's just a beautiful story about: 'How can we survive in today's world knowing that we'll never truly know the answers to life's big questions?' It's a beautiful comic book, and the adaptation is fantastic, so we're thrilled about it".
It's worth remembering that the two will reprise their roles in live-action if the characters appear in films like Man of Tomorrow, the Superman sequel coming in 2027. The reverse will happen in this series, as Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardner, will appear in the story.
Everything you need to know about Mister Miracle
The animated series Mister Miracle was officially commissioned by DC and Warner Bros. Animation in June 2025, inspired by the 12-issue comic book miniseries created by Tom King and Mitch Gerads , winner of the Eisner Award .
The plot follows Scott Free, an escapist artist known as Mister Miracle, who must confront the war between Apokolips and New Genesis when Darkseid finds the Anti-Life Equation. Free, a son of New Genesis who grew up on Apokolips due to a baby swap between his father and Darkseid intended to bring about a peace that never came, suffers from depression and suicidal thoughts in the story, which has a highly emotional and dramatic tone.
