Ryan Reynolds, who played Hal Jordan in 2011’s Green Lantern, would love to return to the Green Lantern universe in HBO’s new series Lanterns. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor said he would make a special appearance in the production if he had the chance.
“I would absolutely do a cameo in that. I’d love to,” Reynolds said when asked about the possibility.
The actor also spoke about what he learned during the production of Green Lantern. Despite making several jokes about the film over the years, Reynolds said the experience was important to his career and that he learned a lot working on a production of that scale.
The possibility of the actor’s return has been discussed for a few years now. It’s worth remembering that in 2021, Zack Snyder revealed that he had considered including Reynolds in Justice League as another Green Lantern.
Everything you need to know about Lanterns
The series follows a young John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and a seasoned Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) as they become entangled in a dark, earthbound mystery while investigating a murder in the heart of the U.S. It is speculated that the victim will be a member of the Green Lantern Corps, a kind of intergalactic police force, and that this is how Stewart will receive the ring that gives members of the group the power to create objects made of green light.
The series cast also includes Garrett Dillahunt (No Country for Old Men), Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Cary Chrisopher (Weapons) and Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), in addition to Ulrich Thomsen as the villain Sinestro.
Nathan Fillion will appear as Guy Gardner, one of the Green Lanterns — a role he has already played in theaters, in Superman. With eight episodes confirmed, the production is led by Damon Lindelof (Lost, Watchmen), Chris Mundy (Ozark) and Tom King.
New episodes of Lanterns are released weekly every Sunday on HBO and HBO Max.
