Before Lanterns took shape in the new DCU, another live-action Green Lantern series was developed for HBO Max, and now its first concept art has been revealed. Check it out below.

The material was shared by Marc Guggenheim (Arrow), who worked on the canceled production, and shows details of a version that would have had eight episodes and a story in two different time periods.

The plot would be divided between Alan Scott in 1941 and Guy Gardner in 1984. The cast of characters would also include Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Kilowog, and Sinestro, as well as Bree Jarta, a new Green Lantern created specifically for the series. The Cosmic Hunters would be the main villains, while Jeremy Irvine was initially cast to play Alan Scott and Finn Wittrock would play Guy Gardner.

The production was to have Seth Grahame-Smith as showrunner, with Guggenheim on the writing team. Initially commissioned for 10 episodes, the series was reduced to eight, and scripts for the entire season were developed. However, Grahame-Smith left the project in October 2022, leading HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television to plan a revamp of the series, this time focusing on John Stewart.

The project ended up being canceled after the creation of DC Studios and the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran to lead the new universe. The series was never officially announced, and the new version focused on John Stewart also didn't move forward. Years later, Guy Gardner and John Stewart finally arrived in live-action in projects of the current DCU, played by Nathan Fillion and Aaron Pierre, respectively.
