A Girls revival has just been greenlit by HBO. Lena Dunham's popular New York City coming of age is returning for a five-episode special with all original cast members confirmed to appear.

The series, which will begin its production in 2027, will have Duham back as Hannah Horvath, Alison Williams as Marnie Michaels, Jemima Kirke as Jessa Johansson, Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna Shapiro, and Andrew Rannells as Elijah Krantz. Adam Driver, who played Hannah's love interest Adam in the series, wasn't mentioned in the press release confirming the revival.

Duham will also act as an executive producer alongside Judd Apatow, Ilene S. Landress, Michael P. Cohen. Williams, Kirke, Mamet and Rannells are set to be co-executive producers.

“I’ve missed these characters, but for a long time I couldn’t quite picture them in the present day. Then, right around my fortieth birthday, they started talking to me in the shower. And, as you may remember, once this fivesome starts talking it’s pretty hard to get them to stop", said Duham in a statement read by Variety.

"It’s rare that you get the chance to return to something that changed your life with the gift of hindsight and a whole new level of gratitude and understanding. I love these girls (and boy), our friends at HBO and all the people who have continued to discover the show and remind us afresh why we do this, which is the joy of being together… and the chance to wear yellow mesh…”

Duham recently released Famesick, a memoir about her rise to fame experience before and after the premiere of Girls. In the book, she points to backstage memories and, particularly, a troubling work relationship with Driver, who was described by her as "aggressive" in several occasions.

Girls originally premiered on HBO in 2012 and ran until 2017 and featured the cast in their 20s. Now, the series will focus on their current lives and what they have been up to all these years.
