Ryan Coogler's 'The X-Files' Gets Approved by Disney+
The director of the Oscar-winning film Sinners helms a new project starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel.
The X-Files, developed by filmmaker Ryan Coogler (Sinners), has been officially approved and will be adapted into a series by Hulu , the streaming service integrated with Disney+ . Check out the announcement below, made on social media:
The production will star Danielle Deadwyler (Till) and Himesh Patel (The Odyssey) in a new story set in the universe of the classic science fiction franchise.
The plot follows two FBI agents with very different profiles who develop an unexpected relationship when they are assigned to a long-defunct division dedicated to investigating cases involving unexplained phenomena. According to Variety, the protagonists will play new characters, not replacing Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in the original series.
Coogler wrote, directed, and produced the pilot episode, which was acquired by Hulu in February. The filmmaker will also serve as executive producer alongside Jennifer Yale, who is responsible for developing the series.
Originally aired between 1993 and 2002, The X-Files ran for 11 seasons, including a revival between 2016 and 2018. The show became a benchmark of science fiction on television, following agents Mulder and Scully as they investigated paranormal phenomena, conspiracies, and possible evidence of extraterrestrial life.
There is still no release date scheduled for the new series.
