'Dungeons & Dragons' Is Getting a Live-Action Series by Alfonso Cuarón

Dungeons & Dragons is getting a new live-action series on Netflix. According to exclusive information from Deadline, the production will be called Ravenloft and will be written by John August, with executive production by renowned Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón and Hasbro Entertainment.

The series will be set in Ravenloft, one of the best-known gothic fantasy and horror settings in Dungeons & Dragons, and will focus on the origin of the vampire Strahd von Zarovich, following his transformation from a tragic hero into one of the universe’s greatest villains. The project is unrelated to The Forgotten Realms, another D&D series that had been in development at Netflix but was canceled, according to information obtained by Deadline. 

Cuarón is known for films such as Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Roma, the latter of which won three Oscars, including Best Director and Best International Feature Film. Ravenloft will mark his return to Netflix eight years after the release of Roma on the platform.

Meanwhile, August worked on Tim Burton films such as Big Fish, Dark Shadows, Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie.
