The final episode of the 19th season of Criminal Minds: Evolution marked the farewell of Elias Voit, the serial killer Sicarius and main antagonist of the series’ new era. Played by actor Zach Gilford, the character’s arc came to an end after three seasons facing off against the BAU.
In the episode, serial killer James Crowley kidnaps Holly, Voit’s daughter, to lure the criminal into a trap. During the confrontation, the young woman kills Crowley to save her father. To protect her from the legal and psychological consequences of the case, Voit takes responsibility for the death. Even knowing the truth, David Rossi confirms the version presented to the FBI, allowing Holly to stay out of the investigation.
At the end of the season, Voit is transferred to a maximum-security federal penitentiary, where he will serve the remainder of his 64 consecutive life sentences. In one of the final scenes, the FBI director makes it clear that the character will no longer work alongside the BAU, bringing his arc on the series to a close.
Zach Gilford’s departure comes after the actor had been part of the cast since season 16. So far, the production has not confirmed whether the character may return in future episodes.
In Brazil, the series is available on Disney+ and Paramount+.
