Whenever a new Avatar emerges in the cycle, the question that remains is: how did the previous one die? That answer made all the difference in Avatar: The Last Airbender and seems to be the key to understanding Avatar: Seven Havens, which tells the story of the world after the Age of Korra.

In the first chapters of the new series, we see an explanation of what happened to the world, albeit in an extremely biased way. Check out below what is known about Korra's past so far:

In the new series, the population hates the memory of Korra. One of the new characters even says, “I’m glad you’re gone. You can’t hurt us anymore.” Meanwhile, in the central square of the first haven we encounter, a play portrays the former Avatar as a monster, and the entire city boos her. Children representing the four elements of the cycle and their variations attack the protagonist, who declares defeat. Another child, the narrator, says that Korra’s evil has finally ended, but left behind a cataclysm that burned the world, causing all the remaining benders to unite and create the Seven Havens.

"Far from revolt and chaos, we became our own heroes. Each Haven found a unique way to allow humanity to try again."

Even without the one responsible for bringing balance to the world, they learned to bend together; the benders united in scarcity and made their skills the power needed to replace the Avatar—at least for now.

Moving on to the second episode, with the twins Pavi and Nesha reunited, they explain that Korra caused the cataclysm and, because of that, the Avatar became the enemy of the world. Now, it's up to the reincarnation of the former Avatar to deal with the new problems and seek balance for the Seven Havens.

Everything you need to know about Avatar: Seven Havens

The official synopsis presents the following story: set in a world devastated by a catastrophic cataclysm, a young earthbender discovers that she is the new Avatar, Korra’s successor. In this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin sister must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before the last bastions of civilization collapse.

In the cast, we’ll have Saheli Khan as Pavi, Aishu Devan as Nisha, Akshay Khanna as Karthik, Major Curda as Jae, Sakina Jaffrey as Agam, Darren Barnet as Daemin, Dianne Doan as Zi, and Dee Bradley Baker as Geet and Ruhi.

Seven Havens is being developed by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, creators of the original series, for Avatar Studios.

Avatar: The Last Airbender, which premiered in 2005, originally followed the story of Aang, a child destined to master the four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, and Air) and bring balance to the saga’s fantasy world. Its sequel, The Legend of Korra, released in 2014, showed the journey of Aang’s first reincarnation, destined for the same role as him.

In addition to the two animated series, the franchise also includes the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, released by Netflix in 2024. Gordon Cormier plays Aang in the production, which has already aired its first seasons and has its third season filmed.

Avatar: Seven Havens premieres on Paramount+ on October 9. All 26 episodes will be released at once.
