Actress Alicia Silverstone is set to return to her iconic role as Cher in Clueless for a new limited series ordered for Paramount+. According to Deadline, the future TV show is a sequel to the 1995 Paramount Pictures film; Silverstone will also act as an executive producer for the series.

Filming is expected to start in Los Angeles in 2027. The story will take place 30 years after the movie's events: Cher is now a mother to a teenager who is going to teach her a lesson or two about parenting in a modern Beverly Hills setting.

Amy Heckerling, who directed the original movie, is back on board to direct the sequel series, alongside Silverstone and Robert Lawrence (Mindcage) as executive producers. Josh Schwartz (The OC), Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl) and Jordan Weiss (Freakier Friday) are responsible for the script.

The project was initially tied to CBS Studios, who previously wanted to focus on a series about Dionne Davenport (Stacey Dash). After almost seven years of development ups and downs with Peacock, the title then moved to Paramount.

"We’re especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city’s exceptional talent and crews", said Jane Wiseman, head of originals for Paramount+, in a statement.
