Zara Larsson Views Herself in Politics: "Like a Singing Mamdani"
The singer wouldn't be opposed to pursuing a politician life in Sweden.
Zara Larsson wouldn't be opposed to a life in politics if she ever grows tired of shining as a pop star. In an interview to Las Culturistas, the singer stated that she can see herself as a politician after completing 50 years old.
"I can see myself going into politics", she said. Larsson even compared her hypothetical political doings to New York's mayor Zohran Mamdani: "Like a singing Mamdani. Someone who is just for the people and who just does good things.” Check out the full episode below:
This isn't the first time she publicly engaged with politics. Earlier this year, she reacted to the use of her song "Midnight Sun" in a video posted by the White House on TikTok. The recording shows ICE agents handcuffing and deporting people, with the caption "Never ending deportations".
In response, Larsson recorded a video on her own TikTok making an "L" on her forehead – a common symbol to signal losers. She said that what she felt was sadness. "My heart is heavy. I would like to speak to whoever made that video. I would like to help you remember that we two are not so different. And we are not so different from the people in the video either. The biggest difference is that life dealt us different cards."
That was the second time the White House used one of her songs to promote their content. When Donald Trump was seen dancing to "Lush Life", she responded on her Instagram stories: "I love immigrants, I love criminals, I love trans people, I love abortions, I love queer people, I love promiscuous women, I love contraception, I love welfare, I love socialism, I hate ICE."
For now, though, she won't be stepping away from promoting global hit "Midnight Sun" or any new music anytime soon. The Swedish singer, who rose to a new level of fame after a viral dolphin video helped her Clean Bandit 2017 collaboration "Symphony" hit the charts again, is on a high.
"Midnight Sun", her 2025 album, was able to reach No. 36 on the Billboard 200, backtracked by "Stateside", with Pinkpantheress, which rose to number 6 on the Hot 100. She recently released "Midnight Sun: Girls Trip", a deluxe version of last year's hit with brand-new versions of the previously released songs, such as "Puss Puss" and "Hot and Sexy".
