The estate of David Bowie just announced "Bowie80," an extensive global initiative featuring museum exhibitions, symphonic concerts, exclusive fashion collaborations, and expanded immersive shows to mark what would have been the legendary artist’s 80th birthday.

The multi-year commemoration kicks off in November 2026 and will continue throughout 2027. Project details and updates will be hosted on a dedicated portal. Bowie, born David Jones in London on Jan. 8, 1947, died of cancer on Jan. 10, 2016, two days after his 69th birthday and the release of his final studio album, Blackstar.

Widely regarded as one of rock's most transformative figures, his estate has since managed a series of high-profile archival reissues meticulously planned by the musician prior to his death. Check out the full schedule for the celebration:

  • Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (Cleveland): Launching mid-November, the museum will feature a Bowie80 retail pop-up, fan activations over his birthday weekend, educational programming, and a dedicated exhibition highlighting both rare and previously unpublished archival photography.
  • The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A): The touring exhibition "David Bowie: On Tour" will bring select artifacts from the artist’s 90,000-item archive across the United Kingdom. Premiering in Dundee, the show moves to Blackpool in 2027 before expanding to additional U.K. venues through 2029.
  • Morrison Hotel Gallery: Debuting in early February 2027 in New York City and West Hollywood, "Strange Fascination" will present a major photographic retrospective spanning six distinct eras and personas of Bowie's career, drawing from both the estate and gallery archives.
  • "David Bowie: You’re Not Alone": The large-format, high-fidelity audio-visual experience will expand beyond its original London venue into Manchester and Brighton, as well as its first mainland European location at Port des Lumières in Hamburg.
  • Symphonic Concert Premiere: Schirmer Theatrical and Østre Gasværk Teater will present BOWIE (breaking) GLASS, an official live production blending Bowie's original vocals with live orchestral arrangements, vocalists, and music inspired by classical composer Philip Glass. The production makes its world premiere in Copenhagen in spring 2027.
  • Fashion & Merchandising: Retailer Nordstrom will host exclusive Bowie-inspired capsule collections across flagship stores in New York, Chicago, and Seattle. Participating fashion houses and labels include Marc Jacobs, Paul Smith, Undercover, and AllSaints. Longtime merchandising partner Perryscope Productions, along with licensees such as Girl Skateboards and Roots of Fight, will also rollout new product lines.
