Kid Abelha celebrates 45 years on the road with a nostalgic concert in São Paulo

Few bands in the world have the privilege of celebrating 45 years on the road and still being recognized for their timeless success. That takes more than just good music—it also requires knowing how to carry that work through different eras. Kid Abelha has done exactly that and is celebrating across the country with the I Had a Dream tour.

​Last Saturday (27), the Rio-based band drew thousands of fans to the lawn and seats at Nubank Parque in São Paulo. With a show centered on the journey of the trio Paula Toller, George Israel and Bruno Fortunato, the group revisited its biggest hits in a delightful atmosphere of nostalgia.

​The first song of the night, despite its title, was carefully chosen to send the crowd into a frenzy. On a welcome cloudless night in the city, Paula Toller sang "Tears and Rain," one of Kid Abelha’s biggest hits, in front of a stage filled with giant screens alternating between original artwork and photos from every phase of the band’s career.

​The choice was spot-on and had the audience on its feet within the first few minutes. As if preparing the arena for a grand finale, the band kept lining up its hits, such as "On the Street, in the Rain, on the Farm" and "Nothing for Me," also making room for the infectious "May" and "I Know Nothing."

​Complete with several outfit changes from the lead singer, the performance only grew more powerful, and the choice of closing songs was impeccable. With "Fixation," "The Way I Want It," and the final "Intimate Painting," the band proved it still has many years ahead to celebrate. All it takes is the will.
