Ariana Grande Confirms Career Hiatus and Exits 'Sunday in the Park with George'

In January of this year, it was announced that Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey would work together again in a new production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Sunday In the Park with George, set to premiere in 2027 at the Barbican Theatre in London.

Now, People reports that the singer will take a break from her career after the end of her Eternal Sunshine tour, which wraps up on September 1 in London. According to the publication, a representative for Grande said, “Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour". 

“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny. This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”

This break includes, of course, her involvement in the production of Sunday In the Park with George. Empire Street Productions, the company behind the musical revival, issued a statement: "We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support. We wish her nothing but the best. The production will open at the Barbican in summer 2027 as planned, and the cast will be announced in due course."
