Kavinsky, French DJ Behind 'Drive' Opening Track, Dies at 50

French producer and DJ Kavinsky died last Tuesday (28) at the age of 50. The artist became known worldwide for the song "Nightcall", which opens the film Drive (2011) — listen below. He was found dead at his home in Paris.

French authorities have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of his death, but so far there are no signs of foul play. According to Reuters, the musician had reported headaches in the days leading up to his death.

Born Vincent Belorgey, Kavinsky gained international recognition after Nightcall was featured on the soundtrack for "Drive". The track, produced with Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and featuring vocals by Lovefoxxx of the Brazilian band CSS, became one of the biggest electronic music hits of the 2010s.

The artist helped popularize the synthwave genre and released the albums OutRun (2013) and Reborn (2022). In 2024, he returned to the spotlight by performing "Nightcall" at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, alongside Phoenix and singer Angèle.
