During an interview for etalk, Inde Navarrette ended up showing off a bit of the Southern accent she'll be using when she plays Rogue in X-Men.

In case you didn't know, in English, the character has a strong accent, mainly because she's originally from Mississippi, which has a distinct accent from the southern region of the United States.

During the conversation, the interviewer asks Navarrette to say "sugar," an adjective frequently used by the character, especially in the classic X-Men animated series.

In the video, Navarrette apologizes if people don't like it. "I haven't been able to practice much yet," the actress explained before using the term. She then continued , "If you don't like it, I'll work on it and talk to Marvel to understand it better," she concluded.

Everything you need to know about the new X-Men

The movie, directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), is set to premiere on May 5, 2028 and will star Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Inde Navarette as Rogue, Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister, Christopher Abbot as Professor X, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Maya Boyd as Storm.

X-Men had a long run in theaters, with films produced by Fox since the early 2000s. An initial trilogy was made, and later the mutant group went through a sort of reboot, with an entirely new cast. In 2019, Fox was acquired by Disney, which has since been paving the way for the characters’ return to the big screen under new leadership.

Because of that, some mutants have been showing up in Marvel Studios productions, such as Beast in The Marvels, Professor Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the duo Deadpool and Wolverine in the self-titled film, which also featured other special appearances. On top of that, Ms. Marvel herself, Kamala Khan, was confirmed as a mutant in the MCU.

In the comics, the X-Men are a group of people born with special abilities who face prejudice from society simply for being mutants. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the original lineup included Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast, and Angel, along with Professor X himself. It was only many years later that more popular characters like Wolverine, Gambit, Rogue, and Storm were added. It is still unknown which lineup will be used in theaters.
