Patrick Stewart, the legendary Professor Xavier from the X-Men films who died this Thursday (29) at age 86, will have his first posthumous appearance this year in Avengers: Doomsday. Next year, however, the heroes return in Avengers: Secret Wars, a direct sequel to the 2026 film. Now, Marvel has confirmed whether or not Stewart would be in the 2027 production.

In a statement on Marvel's official website, the studio described Doomsday as "his final on-screen appearance." Read the full statement here.

In other words, Xavier will not return for Secret Wars. Although filming for Secret Wars has not yet begun, it is customary for directors Joe and Anthony Russo to film part of the next movie during the current one (something similar happened in Infinity War and Endgame).

If Stewart's recordings were made, it seems they won't be included in Secret Wars, which is currently scheduled for December 2027.

Back in 2000, Stewart took on the role of Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: The Movie alongside Ian McKellen as Magneto. The partnership was repeated in X-Men 2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and Logan (2017), in addition to participating in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and The Wolverine (2013).

After that, Patrick Stewart finally entered the MCU. First, he played a variant of his Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and now he is confirmed in the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which premieres in December and will be his first posthumous film.
