'Mouthwashing' Movie In the Works by 'Yellowjackets' Director
Karyn Kusama will direct and Scott Derrickson is set to produce.
A Mouthwashing film adaptation is currently being developed by the minds behind Jennifer's Body, The Black Phone, and the latest Resident Evil movie. The information was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Wrong Organ's psychological horror game sold its film rights to Sony, just after the studio's Resident Evil take with Zach Creggers. Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone) is attached to producing alongside C. Robert Cargill and Vince Cheng, from Crooked Highway. Karyn Kusama (Yellowjackets) will be directing the script written by her frequent partners Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay.
Kusama is no strange to horror: aside from directing Jennifer's Body earlier in her career, she was also responsible for the pivotal Yellowjackets' pilot episode, making her a very interesting choice for a story revolving around desperation.
Released in 2024, Mouthwashing received critic praise for its emotional narrative, making its way to win multiple awards and sell over one million copies only on PCs. The first-person game follows a spaceship crew who end up stranded in space, having to deal with life-altering consequences that maybe weren't even meant for them in the first place.
Although the game has been released for PC two years ago, it has just recently landed for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S, meaning that console players can finally dive deep into Tulpar's story ahead of Kursama's take on the gut-wrenching game.
