'Warhammer 40k' with Henry Cavill Finally Moves Forward with New Writer

The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Warhammer 40,000 for Amazon has received an important update. Games Workshop confirmed that Mike Flanagan, a master of modern horror, has already completed the initial story outlines and is expected to begin writing the scripts soon.

Known for series such as The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, as well as helming the upcoming adaptation of Carrie for Prime Video, Flanagan now officially joins the development of the franchise’s cinematic universe.

The company also reiterated that Henry Cavill remains involved in the project, putting an end to speculation that the actor had left the production after months without updates. Since the partnership between Amazon and Games Workshop was announced in 2024, Cavill has been involved in the creative development and remains attached to the adaptation.

For now, Games Workshop has not revealed whether the first project written by Flanagan will be a film or a series, nor which characters or era of the Warhammer 40,000 universe will be explored. According to the company, development is still underway, and more information is expected to be released in the future.

In addition to the live-action production, Games Workshop announced that it is developing an animated Warhammer 40,000 series centered on the Deathwatch for Amazon. The project will be written by John Orloff, with animation by Blur Studio, which was responsible for the franchise’s episode in the first season of Secret Level.
