Universal is the First Studio to Surpass $5 Billion At the Box Office in 2026

According to Variety, Universal Pictures' global box office revenue has surpassed the $5 billion mark for the third time in the company's history, making it the first studio to reach this figure in 2026.

With domestic box office earnings exceeding $1.788 billion and international earnings exceeding $3.218 billion, Universal has much to thank the variety of films produced by the studios that make up the production company in addition to Universal itself, such as Illumination, DreamWorks Animation, and Focus Features.

Among the most prominent titles this year are The Odyssey, Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie, Michael, Minions & Monsters, and Obsession.

The Odyssey became the studio's highest-grossing film ever with a global box office of $1.7 billion, while Obsession became Focus Features' highest-grossing film ever. The horror hit grossed $519 million after having been produced on a budget of less than $1 million.
