'Sleeping Beauty' Will be the Next Disney Classic to Receive a Live-Action
The director of 'Prey' will helm an original project inspired by Sleeping Beauty, unrelated to the Maleficent films.

According to exclusive information from Deadline, Dan Trachtenberg is set to direct a project based on Sleeping Beauty, the Disney classic. The idea is original and is in the early stages of development, with plans to take the story in a completely new direction, aligned with the director's sensibilities.
This project is unrelated to the Maleficent films starring Angelina Jolie. The new story was conceived by Trachtenberg and Rayna McClendon, with a screenplay by Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf. Plot details remain under wraps.
The production is being handled by Trachtenberg and his longtime partner Ben Rosenblatt, alongside Star Wars producer Michelle Rejwan.
Trachtenberg's relationship with Disney strengthened after he revitalized the franchise Predator at 20th Century Fox with the launch of Prey (2022).
The film received critical acclaim, was nominated for an Emmy for Best TV Movie and became a Hulu hit. The success was followed by Predator: Badlands and the animated Predator: Killer of Killers, with a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making Trachtenberg's three Predator films the highest-rated in the franchise so far.
