The Lord of the Rings trilogy director Peter Jackson confirmed that Tintin 2 will be his next film as a director. During the Sitges Film Festival in Spain, he confirmed that the script is already finished, marking an important step forward in the development of the project announced by the filmmaker in May during the Cannes Film Festival.
“And we've also already written the script for Tintin 2, the second Tintin film. That will be the next film I make,” Jackson stated in an interview with ScreenRant.
The screenplay was developed in partnership with Fran Walsh, a frequent collaborator of the director on productions such as The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The sequel is part of a plan established during the production of the first film, released in 2011, which envisioned a role reversal between Jackson and Steven Spielberg: while Spielberg directed the original film, Jackson would direct the sequel, with Spielberg producing.
Despite the script being finalized, there is still no information regarding the start of filming, the confirmed cast, or the release date.
It has also not been confirmed which comic book story will serve as the basis for the sequel. Among the possibilities are the adaptation of The Seven Crystal Balls and The Temple of the Sun, two interconnected adventures of the character created by the Belgian artist Hergé.
Everything you need to know about The Adventures of Tintin
Released in 2011, The Adventures of Tintin was directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson. The animation used motion capture technology and follows the young reporter Tintin, who, alongside his dog Snowy and Captain Haddock, embarks on an investigation involving an ancient ship and a hidden treasure.
The film combines elements from different comic book stories, including The Secret of the Unicorn, The Crab with the Golden Claws, and Red Rackham's Treasure. Jamie Bell voiced the protagonist in the original version, while Andy Serkis played Captain Haddock.
Created by Hergé in 1929, Tintin is one of the best-known characters in European comics. His adventures follow a young journalist who travels the world to investigate mysteries, confront criminals, and uncover conspiracies, always accompanied by Snowy. The franchise has won over readers of different generations and has been adapted for film, television, and other media.
