Tom Holland Reveals Plan to "Pass the Torch" to Another Spider-Man

Tom Holland already has a plan to pass the torch to another Spider-Man. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the actor who plays Peter Parker in the MCU said there is already an idea in place for another character to take up the mantle.

"There’s a plan we’ve been working on since Spider-Man: No Way Home. It’s mapped out. It’ll definitely change, but I have a very clear vision for the passing of the torch, and I think it’s really exciting," Holland explained.

The actor also says that handing the reins over to another character is what he "most wants to do" as Peter Parker.

The obvious choice, of course, is Miles Morales. Created in the comics as a boy who takes on the Spider-Man mantle in a universe where Peter Parker dies in action, Miles has become one of Marvel’s most popular heroes and, in addition to headlining the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse films, has also been featured alongside Peter in games, animated series, and more.

On top of that, Marvel has already confirmed that it plans to bring Miles into the MCU. However, the studio’s directive is that this can only happen after the Spider-Verse movies are finished. The conclusion of the trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is set to premiere in 2027.

In addition to Tom Holland returning as the lead, Jacob Batalon will be back as Ned, and Zendaya returns for the new Spider-Man movie as MJ. Among the new additions, Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) joins as Jean Grey.

Another confirmed cast member is Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, marking the hero’s debut in Marvel films. Also joining him, Mark Ruffalo is in the movie as Hulk and will transform, for the first time in the MCU, into Gray Hulk, a bigger and more dangerous version of the giant.

The official synopsis for Brand New Day has been released:  "It's a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them."

Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is directing the project. Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, who wrote Spider-Man: No Way Home, are also responsible for the upcoming film. 

Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters on July 31, 2026.
