'Miami Vice '85' Will Feature 'The Odyssey' Actor as Main Villain
Actor from The Odyssey joins Michael B. Jordan, Austin Butler and a large cast.

John Leguizamo was cast to play the role of the main villain in Miami Vice '85, the Universal reboot film directed by Joseph Kosinski. The information was exclusively revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Leguizamo joins Michael B. Jordan, Austin Butler, Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone and Danny Ramirez in the cast.
More recently, Leguizamo appeared in The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan's epic film, as the blind Eumaeus, friend of Odysseus.
Miami Vice '85 is scheduled to begin production in November, with filming in New York and Miami.

Michael B. Jordan, winner of the Best Actor for Sinners, will play Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs. Austin Butler, nominated for an Oscar for Elvis, will play James “Sonny” Crockett. The two had been in negotiations for the roles since last year.
The cast also includes Alden Ehrenreich and Whitney Peak, the latter as Jordan's romantic partner. Camila Morrone has also been added to the main cast.
The official synopsis describes the film as an exploration of the “glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami,” inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the original TV series. The screenplay is by Dan Gilroy, based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich. Eric Warren Singer wrote an earlier draft. Joseph Kosinski (F1) is directing.
The original TV series aired between 1984 and 1989, starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. An earlier film adaptation was released in 2006, directed by Michael Mann and starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx.
The new Universal film will be shot for IMAX and is scheduled for release in theaters on May 19, 2028.
