Noah Baumbach Leaves Netflix For Warner Bros.; Learn More

After a multi-year partnership with Netflix  Noah Baumbach has a new home. The Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director has signed a three-year deal with Warner Bros., which will become the new home of his films starting in 2027. The agreement gives the studio priority in the production of his future projects.

It's worth remembering that Baumbach's partnership with Netflix yielded films such as Marriage Story. Before that, the filmmaker also directed The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), his first feature film released on the platform.

Baumbach's first project at Warner will be released by Clockwork, the studio's independent label run by Christian Parkes, a former Neon executive. The film is still untitled, but it is known that it will be written, directed, and produced by the filmmaker and will have David Heyman LuckyChap as producers.

Plot details are being kept secret, but sources cited by Variety claim the story follows two college students in New York. The film will also have a wide theatrical release, something Baumbach didn't have during his Netflix era.

The hiring is also related to one of Warner Bros.' biggest recent productions. Baumbach co-wrote the screenplay for Barbie alongside Greta Gerwig, a film that became the highest-grossing film in the studio's history.
