According to Deadline, John Leguizamo is in talks to join Matt Damon in the new project from filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert at Universal. The still-untitled film is written and directed by the duo, and already has Sandra Oh, Sean Kaufman, Michael Gandolfini, and Charles Melton in the cast.
Plot details remain under wraps. Kwan, Scheinert, and Jonathan Wang are producing through Playgrounds under their overall deal with Universal. Executive Sara Scott and director of development Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the project.
The timing of Leguizamo’s casting coincided with the buzz surrounding his performance in The Odyssey, by Christopher Nolan. The actor’s performance reportedly convinced the Daniels to offer him the film’s final major role, with shooting set to begin later this year.
Leguizamo is also in Universal’s new The Exorcist film, starring Scarlett Johansson, as well as the upcoming Bullet Catch.
