The script for the new James Bond movie already has its first draft completed. The news was confirmed by screenwriter Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), who is responsible for the next chapter in the franchise, during an interview with British radio station Greatest Hits Radio. Asked whether he had finished the initial version, he responded only with a nod, confirming the news.
Knight also spoke about the experience of taking on the 007 script and said he is happy with the process. “It’s an honor to have been invited. And I believe it’s going to be very good. I truly believe it will be incredible”, he said.
The screenwriter had already given another clue about the project this week when he said that he wrote the character considering “a bit of both”, referring to Bond’s profile and the actor chosen to play him. He explained that knowing who will take on the role makes the job easier, but that the script needs, above all, to be built around the character.
Everything you need to know about the future of 007
With over 20 films released since the 1960s, 007 is one of the longest-running franchises in cinema history. From the very beginning, the Broccoli family has stewarded the character and his films—first with Cubby Broccoli, founder of Eon, and later with his children, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. In 2025, however, the Broccolis decided to sell creative control of the character to Amazon MGM Studios for a reported $1 billion. Within Amazon, Amy Pascal—producer for the Spider-Man films—and David Heyman—who produced the Harry Potter adaptations—were selected to produce and manage the franchise.
It is not yet known when the new James Bond film will be released, let alone who will take on the role of Agent 007. However, Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Dune) will direct, and Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) is handling the screenplay.
