Hans Zimmer's 'Harry Potter' Score To be Entirely Different from John Williams'
The series premieres this Christmas on HBO Max
Hans Zimmer is searching for an original approach for the score of the new Harry Potter series. Speaking to Collider, the composer said he will try to "stay away as far as possible" from the iconic John William's work in the franchise's films.
"I love the movies, and I love having fun with it. I can't write like John Williams, but even if I could, I would try to stay away as far as possible and try to be original. So, does that sort of answer your question?”, he said. "He is truly real.”

The upcoming HBO Max series is scheduled to premiere at Christmas 2026 with eight episodes in its first season. Filming began last summer, and the production has already confirmed that the story will not be told solely from Harry's point of view.
The confirmed cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore. The series will also bring back History of Magic classes with Professor Binns, played by Richard Durden, and will foreshadow the introduction of Lucius Malfoy, who will be played by Johnny Flynn.
